2006 HIGHLIGHTS

FEBRUARY '06: NSP enjoyed celebrating Black History month making some new contacts and preparing for our spring events. NSP was featured in the Education section of the Amsterdam News. Kudos once again to NSP members for their academic accomplishments. We will have a full list recognizing them soon.

Check out our upcoming schedule, as we prepare for the Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival. The festival begins on March 29th and continues through the month of April. We have some new shining stars soon to be featured here in the Spotlight.




2005 HIGHLIGHTS

FALL '05: This Shout out goes to the NSP members who'd made the Honor Roll at their schools. NSP recognizes the following for their hard work:


Chesley Andeliz (also the October Student of the Month at her school): 90.5

Ferdaus Ara: 91.91

Kayla Davie: 94.27

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

A shout to Sydney Tompkins who appeared on Manhattan Neighborhood Network (Channel 57) this Sunday, October 30, 2005 at 5:30pm (EST)! Network also broadcasts online at mnn.org.

 

SUMMER '05:  This Shout out goes to the NSP members who worked on the independent film, "Half Nelson" this summer. The kids had a great time, and we commend them for their endurance and hard work. Plenty of long hours on the set, so congrats to our crew:

* A Special 'SHOUT' goes to Mr. Winston's cousin, Kai "Flyykai" Crawford for his sucessful work in film and video. As a rising film producer and director, one of his videos, "Locked Up" by Akon is up for an MTV2 Video Award this summer. Show some support and visit the MTV website to cast your vote.

 

JUNE '05:  NEW FACES: NSP welcomes Christina Akinsanya to the family. After one month with us, she's excited about developing her modeling career, and will be one of several NSP members working on the independent film, "Half Nelson" this summer. She will also be working on the JC Kids Magazine project, is will be using her past double-dutch experience to assist with developing our new middle school teams. Christina's older sister, Ayomide was part of NSP in 1996, and she hopes to be just as good as her big sister. (*update - Ayomide is training as an actress, and is officially returning to NSP as of August '05) 

This Shout out goes to Ashley Pierce, one of our senior members who recently performed at Columbia University with the Harbor Conservatory. After five years witn NSP, she has taken her dancing skills to the next level, and we look forard to greater things from her in the near future.

 

MAY '05: This Shout out goes to a Atiana Akers, and Maati Lovell who recently worked on Spike Lee's short film, "Jesus, Children of the World". Also working on the project is former NSP member, Ashley Evans, who will be making a return to NSP in the summer.

 This Shout out goes to a Chesley Andeliz, 11. Our super sixth grader has excelled in her academics in her middle school with a 94 average, making the Honor Roll at her school. Just more proof that NSP has the best talented and best educated kids in Brooklyn.



APRIL '05: Here's a quick shout-out to Diamond Alabi-Isama. She made an appearance on Nicelodeon's 2005 KIDS CHOICE AWARDS as part of the opening, which aired on Saturday, April 2nd 2005. Diamond is a rising star from the Detroit, Michigan area, and has been with NSP for the last two years. We're proud of her accomplishments.

This April Shout out goes to a former member who is a rising star in the jazz world. Charenee Wade who was with NSP in 94-96 in an accomplished jazz vocalist, travelling around the world, and making a name for herself. We're definitely proud of her, as she will be inducted into the Central Brooklyn Jazz Hall of Fame, receiving the "Young Lions" Award, in recognition of her accomplishments. She's definitely a shining star, and NSP is proud to have had the pleasure to have worked with her in her musical infancy.

 

MARCH '05: Here's a quick shout-out to Atiana Akers, 11 - Our superstar who'd came to NSP last September is doing well in school, and getting ready for an upcoming audition for the play, "Annie". YOU GO, GIRL! Let's keep encouraging our youth.
