Christmas Children's Program

One of our most successful outreach programs have been the Christmas Children Project which originated in 1990. This program allows our youth to share with others. An annual Toy and Food drive is held between the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Toys are delivered to children in hospitals, and/or shelters. Food and clothes collected are also donated to a local shelter. Past sites includes:

1991: Brooklyn Hospital
1992: P.S. 811K, school for disabled children.
1993: Brookdale Hospital and Beekman Hospital
1994: * Sponsored four (4) Santa Claus letters.
1995: Bushwick Salvation Army Shelter (Brooklyn)
1997, 1998, 1999, 2000: Kings County Hospital
2001: Auburn Family Shelter & Kings County Hospital
2003, 2004: Kings County Hospital

OTHER YOUTH COUNCIL ACTION!

Scholarship Program

Annually, performing arts scholarships have been awarded to instrumental music students of the Ronald Edmonds Learning Center Band program in Brooklyn. These awards have helped raised students self-esteem, and determination by encouraging them to strive in their talent area. These scholarships have been successful through donations from parents, and kind patrons.

Afterschool Tutorial Program

Between the months of December and June, our afterschool tutorial sessions are conducted for children who are in need of help in math, reading, study groups, and/or homework sessions.

Working with Outside Charities

Through the years, several of our members have donated their time to other charities. They have participated in walk-a-thons for the March of Dimes, AIDS, and contributed pledges for organizations such as the United Negro College Fund, and Tomorrow's Children's Fund.

The Youth Council has been fortunate to have been successful through the years as our youth have been able to present the following activities:

Literacy Program

Peer Counseling

Penny Drive

Annual Read-A-Thon

Scholarships

Youth Conferences

Spring Yard Clean-Up

Field Trips

Youth Newsletter

"Wordz From The Council"

Just some encouraging words from NSP's future community leaders.

- Antoine Bishop: "I remember working with the toy drive, and seeing the importance of just giving your time to help someone. Visiting the children in the hospital meant a lot to the kids who weren't able to spend Christmas at home. Just knowing that I played an important role in making a child smile really means that there's more out there for us as youth leaders to do. Giving back to the community really makes a difference in the way we look at things.

- Tyrese McCullough: "The council has taught me alot, but it also helped me to teach others, and I hope that some of the positive things I've done in NSP can rub off to other kids.

- Rashawn Gass: "It's good to help out others. It's all about community and it's important just to make your part count. Anybody can make a difference."
